  1.  @redherring6154  I don't know about the specifics in Australia, but there's usually some rule about needing to hand over more than half the note at once so it doesn't magically become two notes. The banks will usually take some pretty destroyed notes so long as it's identifiably a valid note, as they essentially record that that note is destroyed and remove it from circulation. Shops, not so much.
