Depends what your relevant government is like regarding making and enforcing regulations... and what local transport is like. It can range from a huge deal to functionally irrelivant.

The affordable prices have a bad habit of going away once the local competition goes out of business. And then the store itself goes away, often enough, when the locals start running out of money or the local regulators start getting wise to the fact that their tax base is collapsing.

This comparison, assuming you're being honest, tells me you have never actually seen (or have seen only the rarest and most extreme examples of) at least one of those things.

@crowcawisland I seem to remember watching that video. Pretty sure he didn't say they didn't Exist, just that they can't get away with most of the nonsense that makes them such a blight in the USA (well, one might argue that that means they don't 'count', I suppose).

@crowcawisland They're often Used stupidly, but they are quite useful descriptors... when talking about history and changes in how the population behave over time. For current matters, in most cases smaller age brackets are more useful.

I'm just baffled that governments accept the idea (put forth by the big box stores themselves) that the big box store's structure is so worthless, so expensive to turn into something usable if the big box store itself moves out, that it actually Reduces the value of the land it's on, and thus gets taxed at a much Lower rate... without realising "hold on, if it's worse than Nothing, why are we allowing it to be built at all?!" (even before getting into the Other massive problems with the things).
