Use the combustion engine they absolutely still have? Its only the very reason we ever started putting the things in ships in the first place.

Of course, you need hydrofoils that don't snap under the weight of the ship and its cargo. For that matter, the Hull, being up in the air rather than supported along its entire length by the ocean, needs huge improvements to ifs structural integrity.

In most cases (once you ignore the scams) that I've seen of this sort of thing, there are changes that are only possible due to modern technology that make them better than their older equivalents, even though the basic concept is only revolutionary in the sense that it is coming full circle.

The kite sail idea has been around (and used, to some extent) for litteraly years at this point.

In this case it's more like diesil powered ships with sails as auxillary propulsion. Sort of like the early steamships (as opposed to sailing ships with auxillary steam engines), though the technology of both the sails and the combustion engine is much improved and the reason for having and using the auxiliary system is different.
