@AdhvaithSane it is completely impractical at sea. And getting regular rail trains anywhere that Isn't the ocean (and sometimes even places that are) is mostly a matter of budget and political will, not physical/technological ability.

They make about as much sense as some of the early railways being cable hauled by stationary steam engines at the end(s) of the line. Which is to say plenty, for a given tech level and budget... right up until the engines got better by enough that the benefits no longer outweighted the drawbacks by enough to justify it.

Yeah, this isn't a british thing. The word 'draught' is pronunced 'draft' in every English dialect I'm aware of. ... heck, the game Americans call 'checkers' (or at least a much more commonly played variant) is called 'draughts' in the UK and the rest of the commonwealth... and is pronunced 'drafts'... though admittedly it's probably not played as much now as it was 30+ years ago, what with both video games and more, significantly better, boardgames existing these days.

@camojoe83 here's an extra bonus: if they're not Pulling a Line of barges, it's not a train. (single unit railcars are also not trains, nor is a locomotive by itself). Barges still exist, sure. They're generally lashed together side by side (and sometimes a couple deep) and Pushed by what amount to tugboats, using a completely different engine type. Sure, barges, boat, carry cargo, float... but by that logic there's no different between a steam engine hauling a bunch of four wheeled open trucks and a Semi.

To the best of my knowledge, the 'draught' error is just straight up a spelling pronunciation, indicating that the issue was simply having never heard the word before. To the best of my knowledge it's less an Australianism and more the result of a lack of exposure to watercraft.

Properly speaking, the 'train' is the part that 'follows along behind'... on railways, the locomotive is not 'the train', and calling it Part of the train is already debatable (though camel trains, wagon trains, and multiple units all blur things a little such that you can include the leader, in this case the locomotive, as part of the train). If they're being pushed rather than following behind, then they're not really a train... though we might still call them such if they have enough similarities to the archtype (which, these days, would be a locomotive hauled railway train). if the barges are attached to each other more than one wide the analogy breaks down entirely so they don't count that way either.

The internet is over 50 years old. The web a bit less. Random citizens having easy access to it became reasonably common in the 90s in wealthier countries. Borderline ubiquitous access is more recent again because it required smartphones to first exist and then become affordable. Also, tech progressing as fast as it does Now basically wasn't a thing before the 1800s... and even then the entirity of the 1800s and the begining of the 1900s was the period of acceleration.
