  55. To my way of thinking it is Intergenerational Trauma, poverty, illiteracy and a complete lack of time to engage with the media which makes folks very vulnerable to cults, lies, disconnection, disinformation and manipulation. There's some statistics that are worth knowing. 66.2% of Americans are living pay check to pay check. They work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. Then they have to "volunteer" for food stamps. They are time poor and often do not engage with media. 60% of Americans are reading and writing at a 6th Grade level. 1 in 3 of these are reading and writing at an 8 year old level. This means that they haven't progressed from concrete to abstract thinking. This means that they haven't got critical thinking skills. They do not know about billionaire media owners and their agendas. How they want their Trump tax cuts. Both Republicans and Democrats conspired to use neoliberalism's "Poverty as a Policy Choice". Neoliberalism shifts a citizen of a country who has rights and responsibilities, a sense of belonging and purpose to being a consumer in a market place who is to blame if they do not purchase the right life despite not having a trust fund. The shaming and humiliating of the poor is a feature of neoliberalism. Folks who are vulnerable become desperate to scapegoat others which feels like a huge relief that they are not the at the brunt of the scapegoating. Intergenerational Trauma, poverty and illiteracy makes folks very vulnerable to cults, lies, disconnection, disinformation and manipulation. Trump and FOX news use amygdala hijacks, that is they play on fear responses or fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses. If you are in fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses your rational mind or prefrontal cortex has shut down. Biologically your capacity to think has been shut down. There's no capacity to rationally think things through. Without access to adequate food, housing, stable employment and education folks don't have the capacity to process and engage in moral thinking.

  60. I understand your frustration but it's more complicated than that. Don't be conned by superficial analysis. 66.2% of Americans can't get $500 together for an emergency. They work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. It is the Democratic and Republican neoliberalist use of "Poverty as a Policy Choice". A living wage could have prevented the rise of Trumpism. If you are working 6-7 days a week you don't have time to read the news. You barely have time to think. 60% of Americans are reading and writing at a 6th Grade level. 1 in 3 of these are reading and writing at a an 8 year old level. This means that they haven't progressed from concrete to abstract thinking. This means that they do not have critical thinking skills. So I would argue that a combination of Intergenerational Trauma, racism, poverty and illiteracy leave folks disengaged, extremely time poor, desparate and vulnerable to cults like the MAGA cult. Trump and FOX news use amygdala hijacks. This means that they activate a fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses. This literally means that the rational thinking part of the brain is shut down. It is used by strong men figures to create an environment of racism, sexism, homophobia, Antisemitism and hatred of the other. That hatred of the other is dangerous see authoritarian leaders. Those doing the othering have been othered by poverty, illiteracy and not belonging. To disregard their suffering by thinking it's about stupidity is to miss the cultural moment. It is to alienate those that we desperately need to build bridges with. It leaves us powerless and helpless. If we can see why folks might want to burn things to the ground then we can interact with them and build coalitions

  69. The majority of Americans won't pay attention to the presidential elections until after Labor Day. You are among a minority of engaged folks. There's a few other complicating factors if you are interested. 60% of Americans are reading and writing at a 6th Grade level. 1 in 3 of these are reading and writing at an 8 year old level. This means that they haven't progressed from concrete to abstract thinking. They have not developed any critical thinking skills. 60% of Americans can't get $500 together for a medical emergency. They work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. They have to "volunteer" to get food stamps. They are not analysing the news, they read headlines (which are usually click bait). They are extremely low information voters because of their combined too poor Intergenerational illiteracy and poverty impacts folks in profound ways.  Neoliberalism shifts a citizen in a country who has rights and responsibilities as well as a sense of belonging and purpose to being consumers in a market place. Consumers have to purchase wisely their own lives and it's their own fault if they do not have a trust fund. Neoliberalism has destroyed the psyches of so many people. The poor are blamed for their own situation.  Fox News engages in amygdala hijacks that is it activates the fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses. This literally means that their pre frontal cortex has shut down. They don't have the ability to engage in rational decision-making and thinking.  So those feeling profound shame about their lives engage in scapegoating others. They are desperate to vent and punish someone even if it is themselves.  A living wage, enough to eat and pay rent may well of staved off the rise of Trumpism.

  70. It is much deeper than the price of eggs. Don't be conned by surface analysis. 66.2% of Americans can't get $500 together for an emergency.
