I understand your frustration but it's more complicated than that. Don't be conned by superficial analysis. 66.2% of Americans can't get $500 together for an emergency. They work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. It is the Democratic and Republican neoliberalist use of "Poverty as a Policy Choice". A living wage could have prevented the rise of Trumpism. If you are working 6-7 days a week you don't have time to read the news. You barely have time to think. 60% of Americans are reading and writing at a 6th Grade level. 1 in 3 of these are reading and writing at a an 8 year old level. This means that they haven't progressed from concrete to abstract thinking. This means that they do not have critical thinking skills. So I would argue that a combination of Intergenerational Trauma, racism, poverty and illiteracy leave folks disengaged, extremely time poor, desparate and vulnerable to cults like the MAGA cult. Trump and FOX news use amygdala hijacks. This means that they activate a fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses. This literally means that the rational thinking part of the brain is shut down. It is used by strong men figures to create an environment of racism, sexism, homophobia, Antisemitism and hatred of the other. That hatred of the other is dangerous see authoritarian leaders. Those doing the othering have been othered by poverty, illiteracy and not belonging. To disregard their suffering by thinking it's about stupidity is to miss the cultural moment. It is to alienate those that we desperately need to build bridges with. It leaves us powerless and helpless. If we can see why folks might want to burn things to the ground then we can interact with them and build coalitions
