The majority of Americans won't pay attention to the presidential elections until after Labor Day. You are among a minority of engaged folks. There's a few other complicating factors if you are interested. 60% of Americans are reading and writing at a 6th Grade level. 1 in 3 of these are reading and writing at an 8 year old level. This means that they haven't progressed from concrete to abstract thinking. They have not developed any critical thinking skills. 60% of Americans can't get $500 together for a medical emergency. They work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. They have to "volunteer" to get food stamps. They are not analysing the news, they read headlines (which are usually click bait). They are extremely low information voters because of their combined too poor Intergenerational illiteracy and poverty impacts folks in profound ways. Neoliberalism shifts a citizen in a country who has rights and responsibilities as well as a sense of belonging and purpose to being consumers in a market place. Consumers have to purchase wisely their own lives and it's their own fault if they do not have a trust fund. Neoliberalism has destroyed the psyches of so many people. The poor are blamed for their own situation. Fox News engages in amygdala hijacks that is it activates the fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses. This literally means that their pre frontal cortex has shut down. They don't have the ability to engage in rational decision-making and thinking. So those feeling profound shame about their lives engage in scapegoating others. They are desperate to vent and punish someone even if it is themselves. A living wage, enough to eat and pay rent may well of staved off the rise of Trumpism.
