This might interest you two. 60% of Americans can't get $500 together for an emergency and they work 2-3 jobs and can't pay rent and buy food for their children. Then they have to "volunteer" for food stamps. They are not really living in a democracy.
60% of Americans are reading and writing at a 6th Grade level. 1 in 3 of these are reading and writing at an 8 year old level. This means that they haven't progressed from concrete to abstract thinking. They do not have critical thinking skills. They do not know who Murdoch is or what he owns.
These people do not understand amygdala hijacks that Fox news and anger politics exploits, that is Fox news and anger politics activates fight, flight freeze and fawn. It helps them sell products, hate and anger politics. This means that their pre frontal cortex has shut down. This means that they haven't biologically got the ability to think rationally.
Neoliberalism is shifting a person from being a citizen in a country who has rights and responsibilities with a sense of belonging and purpose to being a consumer in a market place who has to purchase the right life, even if you don't have a trust fund.
This is why there is no living minimum wage. This is why 12 Republicans voted against lunches for children. If you keep folks hungry and poor, you can emotionally manipulate them, and harness their anger, shame and humiliation against others. They can get away with corporate welfare and corruption.
Both Republicans and Democrats conspired to use neoliberalism's "Poverty as a Policy Choice".
Democrats and Republicans used neoliberalism to blame folks for their lack of choices. Those people are desperate to scapegoat others. They are desperate to punish anyone or anything, even themselves.
Intergenerational Trauma, poverty, illiteracy, neoliberalism and shame have destroyed folks sense of belonging in community. It's why there's an opiod crisis. It is why folks hate, because angry and hate belonging is still belonging.
