A very impressive vehicle. Unfortunately it's more a "preview of coming attractions" than a movie you can see at the local multiplex in the foreseeable future, much less one you can stream any time soon. With an initial 2021 production run of 5000 vehicles any chance of a $7500 tax credit is likely to be significantly reduced or eliminated by the dreaded second sticker reflecting a dealer's estimate of local "market adjustment." And even that penalty may be preferable to discovering that each and every RAV4 Prime is sold before it shows up on a dealer lot.Frustrated by the MSRP+ pricing and/or long waiting lists for the KIA Telluride? You ain't see nothin' yet, baby. Put it all together and a realistic estimate of when the overwhelming majority of consumers can purchase the vehicle is more than a year away or even later. So think of the current press reviews as an effort on Toyota's part to (a) add sales to sales of the currently available RAV4 Hybrid (as if that's needed) and/or (b) put a brake on sales of competing available vehicles while consumers wait (impatiently) for the RAV4 Prime.

@fcg243 Automotive manufacturers don't care how "numb" their customers' nuts are as long as they can write checks and there will be more than enough to purchase each and every one RAV4 Prime to consume the initial production run. In fact, if Toyota manages to produce 20,000 of the 2022 model that's less than 5% of total RAV4 sales in the US. Unlike the old V6 RAV4, Toyota will sell each and every one and dealers will create waiting lists.

As long as Toyota wants to sell the Highlander and the Venza, your scenario ain't happenin'. Toyota execs probably still have nightmares about the awful sales of the V6 RAV4. They're not likely to make that mistake again.
