Canadians winters that make heated steering wheels especially appealing. :) And their take rate of AWD vehicles is much higher than in the US. While Golf R's have been scarce in the US, they're readily available in Canada.

@schwenda3727 Very perceptive. I'm frequently amused by internet comments that appear to assume that every automotive brand has infinite resources and instantly available production capacity. That's not true of ANY manufacturer and it's especially unrealistic for the smallest mainstream brand. By the way, you're right about the new CX-5. Not so much for the CX-9 with its extremely cramped interior space in a huge vehicle and turbo 4 competing mainly with rivals offering V6's. As for the Mazda6, it's a very impressive vehicle that had the bad fortune to be introduced in the same model year as the new Accord and Camry in a shrinking market category.

Not pleasing to look at? Reviewers more or less universally agree it's largely unnoticeable.

Ahhh...memories of my RX-8. Much loved and seriously flawed with an engine whose torque curve resembled a 650cc Japanese motorcycle and an engine that once started had to be left running until it reached operating temperature or the engine would flood. Followed by being towed to the dealer to change the spark plug or left permanently wherever it was.

From what I've read Mazda loves Australia. They provide better equipped models and more engine choices (including diesels) than in other markets and it shows in their strong sales figures down under.
