  2. I've probably owned half a dozen vehicles with a hood support strut and none ever "snapped off." I suspect that you'd have greater risk of being hit by lightning with the hood up.

  3.  @dave_riots  VW has a longstanding practice of limiting the content of US spec vehicles in the interest of keeping them price competitive. For example, a fully loaded Autobahn trim of the GTI in Germany runs over $50,000 at current exchange rates. VW believes, and I think they're right, that the US market wouldn't support that price for the GTI. It will be interesting to see a comparison between the European and US versions of the GLI. All the major features are likely to be the same but I wouldn't be surprised to see some features missing from the US version.

  4. Mainly for those with short attention spans. But for less than $800 the engine can be tuned to about 290 HP and over 300 ft lbs of torque.
