Another vehicle gets the new 2.5L turbo engine that Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis have put in at least 7 or 8 vehicles, ranging from the KIA K5 Gt to the Santa Fe, to the Genesis G80. A very versatile and impressive engine.
As for the Santa Cruz, itself, its looks remind me of the Amarok, a pickup with a very short bed that VW sells in a number of international markets including Australia. When I watched a review of the Amarok a year or two ago I wondered (in a comment) why someone would purchase a pickup with such a short bed when an equivalent size SUV was considerably more versatile and had nearly as much cargo capacity. The answer came pretty quickly. It's much more pleasant, I was told, to bring home a deer carcass in the bed than in the interior cargo space of an SUV. Fair enough.
The Amarok is a far more rugged off-roader than the Santa Cruz and is a body-on-frame rather than a unibody platform. Nevertheless, characterizing it as suitable for grandmas transporting garden supplies misses its appeal, I think. It won't attract many hardcore truck fans but the design is highly versatile and for those looking to fill the multiple missions of a daily driver, a long distance "tripper" for a couple or small family and transporting the occasional load that won't fit in a midsize, much less a compact, SUV, the Santa Cruz has its charms.
