Major (and somewhat rare) fail on the part of Genesis. Though initial reviews were nearly universally positive, sales of the G70 have been dismal and dropping. Down 21% in 2020 from its 2019 introduction and another 10% in the first quarter of 2021 to fewer than 1900 vehicles. The closely related Stinger has done somewhat better but its sales have been disappointing as well. So what did KIA do? They replaced the Stinger's 2.0L base engine with the new 2.5L turbo 4 that Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis has put in at least 8 vehicles. That reduced the difference of 0-60 time between the Stinger GT-Line and GT1 from about 1.5 seconds to about a half second. (5.2 vs 4.7 seconds) So what did Genesis do to lure buyers to their entry level sports sedan? Virtually nothing other than some cosmetic changes. Despite the fact the G80 and GV80 base engine is the new 2.5L 4 cylinder turbo and is the engine in the GV70 SUV as well, Genesis left the same rather mediocre 2.0L turbo in the base versions of the G70. Obviously, Genesis hopes to drive buyers to the 3.3L twin turbo V6 in the G70 but the dismal sales of the model and the missed opportunity to appeal to new customers looking for a more affordable Genesis seems nonsensical.

@chromecobalt So is the Stinger. So is the Santa Fe. Yet each (along with 6 or 7 other KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis models) get the superior 2.5L turbo 4 while the G70 retains the mediocre 2.0L powerplant.
