  1. As noted in the video the CX-5 is a tremendously important vehicle for Mazda. Not only is it the best selling Mazda vehicle in the US, it outsells all other models put together! It's an appealing vehicle in many ways but it does have one glaring weakness -- the cramped interior space especially for cargo. At 179" long it's firmly in the "compact" SUV category, only 3" inches shorter than a CR-V. Yet the CX-5 has 37.6 cubic ft of cargo space behind the second row and 75.8 cf overall. The CX-5 counters with 30.9 cf behind the rear seats and only 59.6 cf overall. In fact, not only does the CX-5 rank at the bottom of all "compact" SUVs, it offers less cargo space than several SUVs in the "subcompact" category. (e.g. Kia Seltos, VW Taos). Even telling is that the CX-5's cargo capacity barely exceeds that of a GTI (54 cf), a vehicle that's nearly a foot shorter than the Mazda.
