  1. In addition to "watching" the CVT, I'd recommend keeping an eye on that 2.4L turbo 4 banger. The Ascent shares with the CX-9 the dubious distinction of being the only vehicles in the category that don't offer a V6 as standard or optional. Like the Mazda I suspect the Ascent's engine will be adequate for its mission but in a vehicle weighing over two tons I'm inclined to feel a less stressed (usually naturally aspirated) V6 delivers power more linearly and smoothly and with greater long term durability. In any event, if you find fault with the Ascent beware of the reaction of the "Subar-ites." They're a militant group and don't take criticism of their beloved vehicles lightly. :) P.S. And as for the Tribeca, few of my friends who own Subarus are willing to acknowledge that it ever existed.
