@TopDog8762 I didn't say BLM are libertarian. I said anyone who is actually libertarian would have the exact same aims and demands. Or do you want a more heavily funded and armed police force, marred in structural racism? If so, you're not a libertarian.

@Ten_Mil_Will You really like the idea of a country where you can't even go buy groceries without taking weapons to defend yourself with you, because there's a chance that gunfire might rain out at any moment? Libertarians are utterly bizarre. That's a hellish dystopia. If I want to buy groceries I just need a credit card and some bags. Not munitions to fight off others with.

@MilwaukeeF40C The private sector only functions at all because of appropriate government regulations. In countries where there are fewer regulations (or even just look at the US from 100 years ago) counterfeiting, bootlegging, low quality goods and scams are rife.

@Ten_Mil_Will You've just embarrassed yourself a bit there. The homicide rate in prisons is 3 per 100,000. The homicide rate in the USA generally is 4.9 per 100,000. So even in massive warehouses packed with violent criminals, prisons ARE safer than the streets of America. Why? No guns. Checkmate.

@Ten_Mil_Will You are not trading anything for anything. You are both safer and freer in a country where there isn't gunfire on the streets. Where have you lived that you consider safe? All countries with guns have horrifying homicide rates as a result.

@Ten_Mil_Will It's not a dream. It's a reality for almost every country on earth. I'm in the UK, where guns are banned, and the homicide rate is just 1.2, less than a quarter of the USA's rate.

@afriendofepicproportions The situation you are advocating for seems bizarre and dystopian to me. If I want to go and buy a loaf of bread, I should be able to do that safely. I shouldn't have to take weapons with me because there's a very real danger of gunfire ringing out at any moment. A situation in which "bad guys have guns and good guys have guns" is a terrible situation. It's the description of a warzone, in which we pray that the good guys will win, not a civilised country. I think it comes down to this: You say you want people to be able to defend themselves. I say why not have a country where they don't get shot at in the first place? With regards me being from a different country, I think that's a bit of a silly argument. Every other country has dealt with this same exact problem, and come up with sensible solutions to it. The USA is the only place where insistence on gun rights has lead to disaster, tragedy after tragedy, and then you insist that the rest of the world just doesn't understand your culture? Maybe listen and learn from the rest of the world!

@Ein Gipson "if there are no guns, and I have a gun..." and your logic immediately breaks down. Your question is essentially "if nobody has guns, what do we do when someone has a gun?" It doesn't happen. Because there's no guns. You say a black market would emerge, but almost every country on earth has banned guns and none of them have experienced this problem. You're dreaming up a hypothetical problem, with no evidence to support it, in order to avoid accepting the solution that has worked everywhere on the planet. It's idiocy.

@Ein Gipson By choosing Iceland, it is very clear what psychological process you are engaged in currently. You are not forming your views based on evidence. Instead, you have decided upon your views, are unreasonably averse to changing them, and are instead on the prowl for evidence you believe you can make match. This is unhealthy. With Iceland, gun ownership is banned for all but a small number of guns which are specialised for hunting and sport. The country is very sparsely populated (about 1/3 million population for the entire country), socially equal, and economically and culturally dependent on farming and hunting. As a result, lots of people own hunting rifles, almost nobody owns a gun for self defense, and there is no gun crime. This situation is not even remotely close to the US, nor are you proposing that the US follows its example. You just thought you could present Iceland in a suitably vague fashion that it looks like it supports your ignorant views. It doesn't. Pick any country that matches the US culturally and economically. Look at the UK. Look at Australia. Gun bans work.

@Ein Gipson Your claim here is simply wrong. Homicide is way down in the UK following the gun ban. We currently have a homicide rate a quarter of the US homicide rate, because there's no guns. When there is an attempted homicide, it's more likely to be through stabbing, as you mention, and you are 15 times more likely to survive being stabbed than being shot. Ban guns.

@nikolajcipka8020 Without guns, there's no risk to protect yourself from. With guns, homicide rates are way, way higher, which is exactly what we see in the US - the only country on the planet with a frequent shooting problem.

@nikolajcipka8020 Criminals do not always have guns. That's very obviously not true. With regards "the best means of defense", I don't want to need any means of defense. I want to be able to go to the shops and buy a loaf of bread without needing to be armed in case of attack. Thankfully, I live in a country without guns, so going outside is safe.

@TANK0113 Culturally speaking, the US is very similar to European countries, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. All of these countries have much stricter gun laws, and much lower homicide rates as a result.
