Years ago a friend said he had something fun for us, next Saturday we would be picked up at 10 in the morning so we had to dress up nicely. No questions asked. Well, that sounded like fun.
Two expensive cars picked us up, we sat in the one my friends were in. We drove very fast to a Hotel where there was a large room with a walking buffet with very good and expensive free food and drinks and about 100 chairs. Like us, people unexpectedly were filling these chairs. Than the "show" of two hours began.
A man demonstrated walking with a 100 dollar bill on his shoulder. If he bends over to get the 1000 on the ground, he will loose the 100. We should bring in acquaintances, we get money. They bring more, they earn money. We would be rich!
And the scariest thing was: Of all those 100 people, including my partner, I was the only one who didn't want to participate.
One by one they came sit by me, convincing me to pay in different ways, telling they go to a bank with me to get a loan for this.
Meanwhile everybody clapped if someone signed in to participate "Yeah yeah, well done!".
They tried nice, or intelligent, or aggressive. I liked: "You are eating our expensive food all day and now you give nothing in return? ". I was holding my breath not to laugh.
My partner wanted to sign. Luckily we have separate accounts.
Three months later that money was gone, the scammers club had disappeared, and our friends felt embarrassed.
But I? I visited much more of these gatherings over the next months. Telling people in there in secret they shouldn't participate and eat beautiful food. 😉
