  2.  @Paul71H  Boomers were literally born in the lap of luxury. There’s a stark difference in the attitude between the Greatest/Silent generations and the Boomers. The Greatest Generation is best associated for their role in World War II. Before that, they struggled with the Great Depression. That helped mold them into tough, responsible human beings who valued their possessions. Even entertainers like Jimmy Stewart were crafted and molded during this era. Baby Boomers were already born with stuff handed to them by their parents. They became the Hippies during the 60s/70s, and the younger ones became the Yuppies of the 80s. Completely different attitude in contrast to the Greatest Generation. Then they gained control of the economy in the 90s/2000s and helped lead it into the mess it is today. I find many Boomers intolerable. They lack the down to earth values their parents had, and they come off as narcissistic which is probably why so many Millennials and Zoomers come off as narcissistic. Before Millennials and Zoomers get egg on their faces, look at who raised them.

  3.  @Paul71H  Being forced to work two jobs while barely paying the apartment rent is what a lot of Zoomers are dealing with right now. Baby Boomers on the other hand were largely already given the resources necessary to start a family. Before Ronald Reagan threw in Reaganomics and started shipping jobs overseas, it was possible for the average person to work a factory job straight out of high school and earn good benefits. Many of the jobs were union, something that today’s corporations desperately want to demolish completely. NAFTA helped send jobs overseas and thus manufacturing jobs are largely a thing of the past. Baby Boomers also did not face mountains of college debt that Millennials did and now Zoomers. I struggled with a number of jobs and many of us still cannot afford homes. I’m in my late 30s now, and seeing young Zoomers struggle like this is not something I want to see moving forward.

  6.  @Paul71H  1972 was just after the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s. Your Boomers were addressing concerns about the Vietnam War, while advocating for Peace. A number of them were not civil about it, there were race riots and the violence and cultural upheaval of the 1960s was still fresh in their minds. Yet throughout the 1970s and 1980s they inherited an economy that the Greatest Generation and Silent Generation molded, and then turned around and inherited the resources and economy for themselves. Generation X was the first to get sidelined, then came the Millennials and now the Zoomers are the target. Several Zoomers I know are barely getting by with their jobs, barely able to afford their place and they're paying expensive college tuition on top of that. In 1972 Baby Boomers were living under a healthier economy and ecosystem. My 70 year old father was able to land managerial positions at various manufacturing jobs after he had finished two years of community college. With his income he was able to have a proper family with myself included as the child. At 36 years old my peers are just now beginning to get somewhere with actually owning a home, and many of us still can't do that. Inflation has gone thru the roof these past couple years and our wages are not keeping up with the costs. What happened back in the 1970s to early 1980s can't be compared with the COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming economic recession that we have been dealt with.

  7.  @Paul71H  I don’t agree with this. I read a lot of history. Yes, the US economy was on a downward spiral, and there was a 1987 recession that hit a lot of families hard. I’m not just speaking about the economy, I’m also speaking about our culture. Our culture in this current paradigm we’re living through is a joke. It’s a culture war between the Far Left and the Far Right. The youth in their teens and 20s are being pushed to either political side. Our corporate culture values quickness and efficiency at the cost of forcing people to work two jobs to keep their home. In the 70’s and 80’s, you could be a regular member of society able to have a spouse and two children. Today many of us in our 30’s have decided we can’t have kids, because we cannot afford child care. It’s no wonder birth rates have plummeted. Unfortunately, the average college student will be paying tens of thousands in tuition before their education is complete. A summer job while studying as a full time student doesn’t cut it anymore. Baby Boomers were able to do this with far less stress. NAFTA has done much to damage our job infrastructure by sending jobs overseas because of cheaper labor. Kids are now expected to go beyond Bachelors Degrees because they are a dime a dozen and if you got too much experience and education, the hiring staff will say “you’re overqualified”. This is a system that is destined to crash sooner or later.

  9.  @Buckshot99 University used to be strictly for people who pursued higher academia for limited professions that required a degree. Most people before 1970 - 1980 did not have a degree. They worked straight out of highschool, doing manufacturing, factory or office job work which all enabled them to start families. No degree was needed. The system requiring kids to have formal education for entry level jobs was a drastic mistake. You are paying over $100,000 for a Bachelor’s and you will be broke while searching in the job market.

  10.  @manictiger  He’s not going to listen to you. I’ve spoken to him already and he basically comes off as a crusty Boomer who doesn’t care regardless. So there’s no point trying to tell him anything. As a Millennial in his mid 30s, we still cannot afford any decent home. I’ve accepted the fact that I’ve been forced to live with friends and some family because living paycheck to paycheck is a stressful life. And I have a university degree to top it off. If I want to finish graduate school that’s more money I have to pay that I can’t afford. Student loans are a complete joke, systematically cultivated by the government. You can no longer file for bankruptcy from student loans. I’ve worked since I was 16, and my work life is now over half my lifetime. And the Boomers who were able to have perfectly happy families back in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s are still putting their foot down on us. I didn’t ask for this crap. I didn’t ask for diversity hires to talk crap to me because I don’t agree with the status quo. Striving for something greater is basically pointless.

  13.  @BoyGeorge84  I’m guessing you’re American, or at least live in western society like most all of us. Face it. Boomers had it easy. The days of buying a home with wife and two kids off a highschool education are long gone. We have guys with Master Degrees who are barely pulling through. In the Seattle area a good house is at least $1 million if not more. A shabby apartment or condo is going to cost good money. Nothing is cheap.

We’d be breaking champagne bottles and dancing down the streets if we could afford homes the way the Boomers did back in the 1970’s - 1990’s. Instead, I’ve had to work two different jobs to keep myself from getting kicked out because I can’t afford to always pay bills.

  18.  @yadevk8025  I believe some places don’t allow children to go a certain distance without a cell phone or whatever. I don’t know exactly, but it’s a stupid law regardless. Older Millennials and Gen Xers back in the 90’s could hike and bike several miles from home. No cellphones, just as long as you got home before dark. You try anything like that today, and the cops will likely come looking for you hours before sundown. It’s a sad reality.

  21.  @kiana3901-o5s  If you are the younger sibling, chances are the parents will chastise and treat you as a child, regardless of how old you are as an adult. My uncle turns 70 years old this year. Back in the 1990s he was a nice uncle, or at least, was. Because I was just a little kid back then, he probably didn’t want to get cast out of the family for mistreating a child. Fast forward to 2015. I’m the same age as you are now. Visiting him with some family while on a trip to a national park. He was cold, mean and narcissistic. He was born in 1952, so he fits right along the Boomer and his attitude perfectly reflects what this video was saying. Started work at the US Post Office in 1975. Worked there until 2010 when he retired. Still has retirement income coming to him from deals he made long ago. Despite living alone and having good retirement, he was mean, rude and angry towards me. Blames me for problems I may or may not have caused when I was at his home for family. Turns out he hated me for far longer than I realized. I wasn’t aware of it until my mom told me about it around a decade ago. We used to visit him once a year, and I realize he already didn’t like me 20 years ago, based on complaints my uncle told my mother when I wasn’t around. In 2016 I completely cut him out of my life. Haven’t heard from him or seen him in six years. The lesson here is family is often not as wonderful or grand as people make it out to be. Like you, I had abusive older people in my life. The best and only thing you can do is cut them out of your life. You cannot let them drag you down.

  22.  @myfavoriteplanet3247  Trust me, Boomers still hold the same arrogant attitudes about themselves and others as they did back in the 1990’s. That hasn’t changed. The times and the technology in contrast have changed. If Millennials seem intent on giving their 5-year-old kids participation medals, the Boomers instilled that into them. Gen Xers from what I’ve observed and have talked to were raised by the Silent Generation. While they did not experience the suffering and triumph of the Greatest Generation, they still had a decent set of morals. Just like with the Greatest Generation 20 - 30 years ago, the Silent Generation is rapidly dwindling due to old age and I’m sure most if not all are disgusted with the world of today. The Boomers in contrast still control our government, our corporations and our daily businesses. And they’re not sharing any of that with the younger generations. That is why the ‘OK Boomer’ meme is as prevalent as it is. You got 35 year old Millennials moving back in with friends and parents. You got 20 year old Zoomers who are already miserable and fed up, barely scrapping by with the insane inflation going on right now. Things aren’t looking good for western society, especially Anglo countries like the United States.

  25.  @dem8568  The generation before the Boomers hated them too, but they’re almost all dead. I have been listening to Thomas Sowell lately. Just started reading one of his books. Almost finished reading Douglas Murray’s The War on the West. People can whine about the WW2 and Silent generations all they want, but they were overall just better. Boomers took all the good stuff and ruined it. Divorces are off the charts. Kids are now entering highschool in constant panic mode. Social media makes sure we’re all miserable because cancel culture is king. I work a full time job where I help Gen Z people move forward in life. Most of them are miserable, angry, lost, confused, depressed and frustrated. That’s a fact.

And while I hate Trump and have always hated him, I am not anti Trump to the degree that I’m obsessed with that. Too many progressives flew into a panic once Trump won the 2016 US Elections. The guy you were arguing with is more than likely stuck in the past. What happened in the 1960s was a long time ago and nothing from that era is relevant. I live in a leftist state and I can tell you from experience that Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon have both turned into hellscapes. Vancouver, Canada is another dystopia. Young people cannot afford anything decent. Condo prices there are beyond ridiculous. Drug usage is through the roof.

  28.  @YoungSantasGroupie  A few things here. Boomers were not only the last generation to believe world peace would last forever, they were the last generation to fully reap the rewards. You can argue that the Greatest Generation didn’t fully reap the rewards because a good chunk of their life was tragedy. After World War II, came the Post War Era. The Greatest Generation ushered that in. Since Gen X, things have progressively gotten worse. You may think it’s Boomers vs Millennials. But people forget Gen Xers were bullied by Boomers, which is now in the past because this was back in the 80s - 90s. Millennials make up a larger demographic which is probably why these debates still go on. “Coddling” and “Helicopter Parenting” may have been a thing by the 1950s but I don’t think those went into full force until the 1980s and 1990s. The 1980s marked an era of hyper awareness for children. Hollywood suddenly had an interest for child and teen stars like Corey Haim. Missing children were listed on milk cartons. Ronald Reagan’s ‘Just Say No to Drugs’ was in full effect. Boomers, Gen X and Millennials were all raised on Hollywood and flashy entertainment. You had sitcoms like Family Matters and Roseanne that taught people that no matter how bad things may get, it will all turn out good in the end. If that isn’t coddling the American public, then I don’t know what is. You think Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan weren’t coddled as celebrities? Celebrities get all the breaks, which is another big problem. Boomers are stuck in the 1970s - 1990s and it shows with their mindset. The Dot Com Boom was the Boomers final great accomplishment, done by the likes of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and other tech pioneers of their generation. Millennials were coddled in the 1980s and 1990s and had the rug pulled out from under them in the 2000s. “Helicopter parenting” and “coddling” have created a generation of narcissists. Just look at Miley Cyrus, her father was the one who put the actual work and effort in. The good times are over.

  29.  @milestoitaly  Part of learning is making some mistakes here and there. Why should that be different for anybody else? I’ve met stupid, ignorant people with Master Degrees. And on the other side of the coin, I’ve met some bright kids in college who don’t have a degree. We all make mistakes. I made plenty of stupid mistakes when I was 18 - 20 years old, because I didn’t know anything about the real world. As someone who has been out for 15 years, struggled, moved back in with parents and moved back out, you gain experience and a little wisdom. Teach the kids good values, so won’t repeat their mistakes. Just calling them lazy and self entitled isn’t going to help.

  34.  @bveracka  I'm in the same age group so I completely relate to this. Millennials were driven by MySpace, the first social media platform we could get our hands on. Many of us were still impressionable kids and teenagers, so you can see the societal impact social media left on us. Suddenly we had fear instilled into us, and now I see 10 year old kids who are practically on a leash almost. They are being raised with fear in mind, something that we inherited and normalized which is why we will never have another Muhammad Ali or Clint Eastwood.

The Boomer work ethic acts like we’re still in the 80’s - 90’s, and I’m sick of it. I’ve had more arguments with Boomers on the internet and in person than I have with any other generation.

Unless you have high credentials then you’re basically stuck in the job you applied for. That’s why we switch jobs so often now. If someone treats us badly, you just get another job somewhere else.

Playing video games, um hello, did you completely forget that Gen Xers were the ones who played those old arcade games at Pizza Hut back in the 80’s and 90’s? Gen Xers got around to video games before Millennials did. You guys already established yourselves on the internet in the late 90’s. We had to wait until MySpace got big before we really got to use the internet regularly. Which brings to another problem: social media. My generation loves it. Your generation has more hatred to it.

But just because I fall under a certain age range, I’m told I’m lazy and entitled by Boomers who are the very things they are complaining about. Gen Z has every right to be upset at this point.

  41.  @jeremywoodfin2885  Part of this problem is Boomer parents are still lecturing their adult Millennial kids. This stifles their opportunities to be independent and pursue their own lives. The debt from college (on average, it costs around $100,000 to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree) keeps them crippled for years until that debt is paid. Loans do nothing, because that is just borrowing money to pay for a tuition cost that younger people have to pay off anyway. My grandparents are dead. Their generation may have started the decline, but the Boomers have definitely accelerated it. Stay safe and strong my friend. It's rough out there.

  42.  @rmcgraw7943  Yes to all you said. Gen X hates them too. My older brother remembers his friends that were latchkey kids. They got no help, no assistance, no guidance, nothing. In the 1980’s, Christian Boomers who loved Reagan talked at you, not to you. This was apparent in various 1980’s talk shows, where a class of Boomers would go on and make various points. Being a Gen Xer was tough.

  47. Obviously yes, living conditions are overall better than they were over a century ago. But compared to the 80’s and 90’s. No. Kids have far less options for fun now than they did back then. Skating rinks are just one of many things that have been replaced by brutalist concrete/glass style architecture.
