  1. Well you have to understand, without Harry Cohn of Columbia, we wouldn’t of gotten The Three Stooges. People still cherish Marilyn Monroe, despite her personal life being shaky and having died over half a century ago. Frank Sinatra spent much of his career in Hollywood and Vegas, and was associated with the Mob. Still, despite this, he had a long standing music career and his music is still heard to this day. Then you have to account for Judy Garland, who played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, and the bad treatment she got from the studio system. You go back further, you get Charles Chaplin, himself a bit of a weirdo despite being a legendary silent screen star. Anyone who says Hollywood was innocent was flat out lying.

  4.  @latinhero1818  The studio heads of the early 20th century shaped what was a small town with Hispanic roots into a celebrity central obsessed culture. Harry Cohn. Louie B Mayer. Jack Warner. Darryl F Zanuck. All of these men were vital to putting Hollywood on the map. If you’re going to throw blame, these men are the best targets.

  6. It’s been this way for a really long time. Back in the 1950’s John Wayne was making loads of money while most people in America were either housewives or worked a boring manufacturing job that paid good. Nowadays the average person can’t buy as much due to wages being stagnant and inflation going thru the roof. You people like to spout this like it’s some phenomenon and you act like it’s only been a problem over the last couple decades. It’s been going on much farther than that. Your grandparents generation watched Judy Garland on the silver screen when they paved the roads, built new freeways and provided education services to their children. The best way to rid of celebrity culture is to simply stop paying attention to it.

  7. @Greeley This should be obvious. I hate celebrity culture as much as the next guy, but I can respect and admire George Clooney and Samuel L Jackson not only for their acting craft, but also for their determination and dedication. People like that who spend that long in show business get some praise from me. Most of us don’t obsess over celebrity culture or bother reading any magazine website that exclusively deals with Hollywood. Most of us are normal people living average lives and having our own families.
