@grimhat2 It was a satire of the American family. Most sitcoms before it portrayed families as loving, hard working, dedicated. The truth was these shows provided escapism and entertainment in a bleak reality. Many families were dysfunctional back in the 1990’s, but since the internet was niche and cellphone cameras didn’t exist, you were largely left to know your friends and family, dysfunctional or not. Now we have instantaneous internet, rapid social media and everything ugly for us to see. I loved The Simpsons, but today it is seen as degrading due to the values of the family itself, which was anything but good.
