The best thing you can do is leave California. I did, well before the COVID pandemic, and I felt I made a wise decision.

I will agree that the decline started in the 1980s. Remember Ronald Reagan and his ‘Reaganomics’? That’s something most of your peers are speaking very vocally on, and for good reason.
2
I can’t remember the last time welfare was actually regulated.
2
@VeronicaCawelti America can’t even help their poor, disabled military veterans.
2
@VeronicaCawelti You’re also talking about a VA that did not adapt to the internet age. So they were already messed up long before you became a veteran.

I went to Vancouver BC in 2012 and things were already looking pretty bad. Now there’s a Fentanyl problem that is affecting so many youth, leading to death from drug addiction. It’s a tragedy.

Meanwhile giving them little bits and scraps while everything else was picked clean.

@corycrandell2682 Eugene is pretty bad. Went there a month ago and the infestation is creeping there as well.

@corycrandell2682 I lived in the valley for over 30 years so I can speak from first hand experience that it's all gotten insufferable. I have witnessed bums in Portland Oregon urinating on small/mid size businesses that had to close up shop because of the vandalism. As a father of little kids, I have decided they will not be seeing any of that. Living a small town at this point is far more sane than being subject to a large city that doesn't care about anything you do or try to do.

The Tide Pod challenge all over again.

I remember looking around San Fran back in 2007. The average house in city limits was around $750,000. Far too much for the average family to afford. Now, it’s just a bunch of young guys in their 20s and 30s living homeless, just trying to scrape by on day to day basis. Their future, and Californias future are both pretty bleak.
1
@Eric Nunya He brought his cult down to South America, had his followers drink the “Kool Aid” and then basically committed suicide. The term “don’t drink the Kool Aid” comes from Jim Jones and his Jonestown experiment.

Portland Oregon is horrible these days. Bums going to the “bathroom” right out in the open. Identity politics infesting the administrations in Portland from top to bottom. A police force that is often not there to fight crime. Small to midsize businesses have gone out due to vandalism. They can’t afford to pay the insurance costs and they costs they have to make to repair the damage. Ted Wheeler meanwhile just sits there and does nothing. It’s not just Joe Biden being incompetent as US President. It’s most everybody who have a seat of authority. They’re not doing anything to help these poor people. Driving up and down Interstate 5 in the Portland Oregon area is almost like seeing something straight out a horror movie.

That time has long passed. Today it’s a dystopian reality where only the rich make it out.

Nice afro
1
You’re just making it worse.
1
They might as well have.
1
Good idea, but people in charge aren’t hearing any of it.
1
This is why I left also.
1
@michaelsorensen7567 Then the extreme leftists took over and made it a hell scape. The same thing is happening right now in Oregon and Washington State.
1
@scoticvsgossage9378 Now you guys got those Japanese Hornets to contend with as well.
1
It’s worse now.
1
It would kill off a lot of degenerates if they were forced to go to Minnesota.
1
Imagine how many more kids would benefit from a proper education on history. Most people aren’t even aware of Roe v. Wade. Our officials don’t seem to care.
1
At least you understand sarcasm, unlike the California commies.
1
You can add Washington State to that list too.
1
Not to mention more classy, disciplined individuals. The World War 2 generation fueled LA. What you have now is a bunch of whiny Gen X/Millennial/Zoomer individuals, some of whom are homeless, spreading their toxic nonsense to anyone they get in contact with. California is a lost cause.
1
I pray for the entire West Coast to fall into the Pacific.
1
Sounds like a typical day on Interstate Five.
1
The 1990s was probably the last great hurrah for California. I’m not nearly as old as you but I can remember California being a lot more…pleasant. Nowadays I wouldn’t even consider taking my little kids to California. Politics and finances have turned California into a nightmare.
1
That was a different time and generation. People like Rudi was are few and far between. Almost none of our actual good citizens are in any position of power to change anything.
1
They never did.

@sardonically-inclined7645 Have you ever lived in the United States? As someone who grew up in California and in his late 30s, I have seen first hand the utter demise that has led to the tragedy we have today. Perpetuated by progressive politicians who cared for nothing but their bottom line. A number of these homelessness didn’t get there purely because of bad decisions. They got there because they were on the receiving end of the system they fell victim to. The state of mental health care in the United States is an absolute joke. San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, none of these cities are helping the homeless at all. They’re just driving them further into hopelessness, suicide, and a constant craving of drug addiction.

This needs to be pasted on more YouTube videos detailing the problems in California.
1
Has been this way for decades. Now it’s fast approaching life support.
1
So just like the drug industry, there is a profit motive behind organizations that hide behind “charities” meant to help the homeless.
1
Is this town pretty close to Redding?
1
And nothing good has happened.
