I think that’s the point of this video. The 1950’s era family in that photo didn’t look like they had much. A few possessions, but nothing like the amount of stuff the average family has now. That older family did however have tradition. Dad was the guy working to provide funding while the Mom was the housewife looking after the children. Analog TV with dials. Three channels to choose from. Church on the weekends.

@harrypike731 Silicon Valley and Hollywood are just one little part of America. The issue is because a lot of media stems from those places, people get a narrow lens of American culture, which is many different cultures combined into one. Someone in Missouri will not typically think like someone in San Francisco, California. SF is an entirely leftist area complete with leftist politics and blue haired individuals wishing to ‘transition’. The state of Missouri has more people down to earth, more conservative, more family oriented. Their politics and view of life as Americans is very different from those living in blue colored cities like SF. Junk food, materialism and all that comes from the big corporations and big cities. People need to look beyond that, because America is so much more than what the media is force feeding them.

@joshuaholman7760 Home videos, either on VHS tapes or those little cassette tapes. We have a video camera that recorded on those cassette tapes. Sad that kids today won’t know how good Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were as music artists.

And to think the UK brought out The Beatles and the Monty Python shows, among other things. In 50 years the UK goes from a cultural powerhouse to a shell of its former self.

@Raggmopp-xl7yf All those old shows I mentioned still have their charm. That’s definitely mainstream media. Little is worse than hearing Tucker Carlson, Rachel Maddow, Ben Shapiro and Piers Morgan run their mouths on nonsensical issues, while dividing their audience. I gave the Andy Griffith show a chance, and it’s every bit as good as people say it is.

@Raggmopp-xl7yf I wouldn’t necessarily say the rest of the country. I’m from the Pacific Northwest. Portland, Oregon back in the 80’s and 90’s was good. Today it is a dystopia, full of homeless bums who are nihilistic, and morally corrupt city officials. Progressives ruined Portland, just like they ruined the state of California. I don’t consider myself a Conservative, but an Independent/Libertarian. What the Democrats are doing has nothing to do with classic Liberals, or even upholding the US Constitution. I’ve been to other states like Colorado and stayed there a while. A decade ago I considered it a swing state. Now it is a blue state, and the same twisted ideology is there as well. Change for the sake of change, changing history that fits their agenda. That is communism. You will own nothing and be happy, which is what the Soviet Union followed. I don’t even care that much for vintage 50’s/60’s era shows, plenty of stuff from the 80’s/90’s did not have this ideology. I have turned to Japanese and Korean entertainment, and they are simply much better than modern Hollywood.

@ThinWhiteAxe There’s lots of patriotism in states like Montana, Missouri, Wyoming, North and South Dakota. Idaho is also patriotic, but it’s home to a bunch of hyper aggressive flag waving conservatives who hate diversity and most anything that isn’t White. The leftist cities like Portland Oregon are more so a clash of cultures. Many people from California moved there which shouldn’t be surprising considering it’s ultra progressive politics, the main reason why it’s bad now. The San Francisco Bay Area is leftists from top to bottom. Silicon Valley is there with them. Los Angeles, particularly Hollywood is ultra left wing. Orange, California is largely conservative. Bakersfield is notably conservative, though I hear people are trying to leave.

California is probably the worst. From my grandparents old photo albums I’ve looked at vintage photos from the 1950’s - 1970’s. Even Hollywood, which they visited a couple times, looked far more beautiful and lively than it does now. The rest of the state was beautiful. Los Angeles when I went there last year was a complete train wreck, filled with drug abusers, typical fast food places, and a feeling of despair, since real estate is out of reach down there for the average person.

@Raggmopp-xl7yf I’m sort of envious for you guys. The parents/grandparents of that era fought in WW2 and tried to give you kids (of the era) a better life. That was the theme of 1950’s - 1960’s television. They portrayed white middle class families in splendor, Leave it to Beaver being a good example of this. My era is the late 1980’s - early 2000’s, when the rot had already settled in. I feel thankful I left college before the 2007 housing crisis and 2008 financial crash. Young Millennials got shafted, and things are even worse for the Zoomer generation, who are utterly lost and without hope. Older Millennials like myself (late 30’s) were the last to remember a time before 9/11. Leave it to Beaver was one of several tv programs our cable and later satellite provider had, along with I Love Lucy, Bewitched and I Dream of Jennie. I remember they were on Nick at Nite.

@Raggmopp-xl7yf No doubt. The 2000’s was when the banks really started to embarrass themselves. The Silicon Valley bank is just one of many banks that have failed. Sadly, the Millennial and Zoomer generations are leaning Communist/Socialist in their political views. You cannot debate or reason with a lot of them. They are woefully ignorant of the Soviet Union, which to be honest, we were just kids when it collapsed. Yes, I think we are the last to actually be self sufficient. The shows we watched as kids in the 80’s and 90’s taught you to be more responsible, something that modern kid shows today fail to do. Modern TV is basically propaganda. It benefits no one.

@Raggmopp-xl7yf The thing was back then, those shows were designed to make you forget your troubles. Sitcoms like I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver and The Beverly Hillbillies did this perfectly. This is probably why those oldies are still loved after all these years. Even The Brady Bunch. Nowadays shows are expected to be more like The Sopranos and Game of Thrones. Which is fine, but the shows that Millennial aged writers are doing now are junk. The writing is dull, probably because many Millennials lack that vital life experience that people like George Lucas of Star Wars fame had. They can't write good stories, so they basically resort to political propaganda to make the writing for them. Modern day America is basically one big piece of propaganda. Instead of being apolitical young people are now expected to believe that "everything is political". It's no wonder why we have all this political discourse.

@Raggmopp-xl7yf There are exceptions to oldies TV. I’m a big Lucy fan, and I enjoy Gunsmoke and Have Gun Will Travel. Star Trek: TNG is probably my all time favorite sci fi TV series. Excellent writing. Anime does a better job with the storytelling than modern western shows/movies. Western comic books are a joke at this point.

@tjmiller9567 I’m Mixed. There’s a lot of prejudice in conservative states like Idaho. Indians hate other races for obvious reasons. Whites treat each other well, but will look down on various minorities, including Hispanics and people like me, who are part Asian.

@harrypike731 Modern suburbia has existed since at least the 1940s - 1950s. Even back then, Europe was already working towards being a better place, especially after WW2 ran havoc across it. America on the other hand is a more twisted version of The Simpsons. Your average American is Homer Simpson. Fatter, ignorant, dumb, poor education, etc. He worked at a good paying job despite only leaving highschool. Bart Simpson on the other hand is the Millennial aged American who started off living a good life, but ends up working a miserable job while living paycheck to paycheck in a run down apartment.

@victorydaydeepstate That generation is gone. The remaining members are in their late 90’s, and likely have a caretaker looking after them or are in a senior home. You guys were already doing damage as far back as the 1960’s - 1970’s. Before you give Millennials dirt, take a look in the mirror. That’s who raised them.

@pietrayday9915 John Wayne popularized western movies. Old shows like Gunsmoke cemented western shows for a good twenty years or so. Clint Eastwood made “spaghetti” westerns more widely known. Italian filmmakers cast American actors like Lee Van Cleef into the films, told them what to do, and they sold well.

@pietrayday9915 Boomers created many of the issues we have today. Globalism, shipping manufacturing jobs overseas, bringing down career ladders, soaking up Social Security, as a generation I feel they have done more harm than good. Their parents, the WW2 generation, were brought up in a very unsafe America (the 1920’s), the politics and economics of that time brought in the Great Depression. The Boomers, in contrast, grew up on the TV watching shows like I Love Lucy, Ozzie & Harriet, Leave it to Beaver, all showcasing a largely fictionalized 1950’s America, the one that 80 year old people today largely miss and reminisce about. A portion of the 1960’s was this way, but the JFK assassination, the Civil Rights Act, the Vietnam War all brought strife and division. The Hippies came to existence during this period. Some of those Hippies are now the old men controlling many of the assets and properties we have in America. The Millennials and Zoomers will experience a great catastrophe, sooner or later. They arrived too late to take advantage of the 1980’s - 1990’s era American economy. The Gen Xers were too small of number and largely didn’t care about their future. They are just as broken as the Millennial and Zoomer generations are.
