@samhand8270 Look to Japan and Scandinavian. I watch mostly anime and some stuff from Europe these days. Hollywood and the rest of the western entertainment industry has gone to complete garbage.

@SeriousMcnegative The problem is it has infiltrated our everyday lives. Even if you walked away from social media never to use it again, there is a very good chance somebody in your family, or someone you work with (regardless if you work on location or remotely) who uses social media as an addiction. The old internet was better. Less censorship, you could say what you wanted when you wanted without repercussion. Computer geeks just wanted to express their creativity on the web, and it was a healthy set of communities that all shared a common interest. Nowadays everybody and their mother is on the internet and if you so much as critique or even create something, someone out there is going to try to cancel you into oblivion. It's happening right now with Matt Walsh after he made his documentary on what it means to be a woman.

Don't budge.

@MrLukejosh I saw this film a long time ago on DIRECTV, back when the satellite service was actually good and gave their customers good deals. Holds up incredibly well, and it makes modern films for the most part look childish.

@wheeljack0 I'm a lot younger than you, about 36 years old, and I remember comics being a lot more fun and engaging back in the 1990s, early - mid 2000s. I still have a Spider-Man Marvel comic from 1995 where he was in a confrontation with Sandman. It was the first issue where I truly began loving Marvel comics. That's all gone now, because the mob has ruined the comic book industry. The anime and hentai industry may be cringe at times, but at least they're a lot more tolerable to read and watch.

@Sasquatch-ff1pj He's clearly talking about the Millennial generation here. A generation that was brought up on parody comedy (South Park, Family Guy), but whom is a significant contributor to today's cancel culture. A lot of Millennial kids were brought up in the Baby Boomer economy of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. They were already coddled and given decent material without doing any of the hard work themselves. Nowadays these 30 something year old adults just craft stories that focus on their own ideology, and are utterly obsessed with Twitter and Instagram. If you feel that a lot of today's writing is narcissistic, amateurish and unfocused, there's your answer. George Lucas was brought up in a different generation and his ideals that ultimately led him to create Star Wars seem like the polar opposite of what today's writers are doing. It's the same generation and set of writers that destroyed western comic books. The same people making Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. They didn't create anything. The Kim Kardashians out there complain about their smartphones and then wonder why so many people hate them.
2
That's why I still hold my old comic books dearly. Because the modern industry will just take those comics, twist them and deliberately ruin them to exact revenge on the people who loved comic books for decades.
2
Pretty much.
2
I love Monty Python.
2
The Japanese are killing it in the video game industry as well. The west has long been in decline.

Michael Jackson said his line "I'm a lover, not a fighter" during one of the songs he did with the Jackson Five back in the 1970s.
2
@lairdkilbarchan Kids used to make fun of Michael Jackson back in the 1980s for how weird he was. But his Moonwalk dance performance plus his Thriller album put him on the list of legendary performers. His private life was anything but normal. Hanging a baby from a balcony, having photos taken of you out in public with kids being 'shielded'. Then in one interview I remember back in the 1990s or so, Michael treated the guy interviewing him like garbage, while he was acting like a 10 year old kid climbing trees. Then there was Michael looking White, and then he looked like he came from Asia. A walking plastic surgery disaster, losing all the dark skin he had when he was with the Jackson Five. Finally he dies in June 2009 at the age of 50. Very tragic, but led a completely abnormal life.

There's channels like Turner Classic Movies that show stuff mostly from the 1930s to the 1970s. Recently I've gotten into Old Time Radio which spanned the 1930s - 1950s. Full of class acts, wonderful performances, and a real respect for the audience. You won't get any of those today.
2
The problem is Hollywoke used to come out with some pretty good stuff in the 1980s, early 1990s. Everything from the early 2000s onward has been utter tripe. It’s no wonder so many young people are turning to Japanese anime and Korean films.
2
And it's especially harrowing when you see that these are 30 something year old Millennials who are more closely related to actual children than actual adults. It started when our institutions started giving out participation medals to kids around 25 - 30 years ago or so. Now every other woman in the Millennial generation is a Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner type of individual whereas the men have been reduced to beta males who express more girly traits than masculine traits. Say what you will on Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hulk Hogan, but they were real masculine men. Never mind that Hulk Hogan was racist. Nowadays, the kids have no role models like them, and it shows.

There's a lot of good stuff on Steam for the PC if you look around a bit. The last movie I watched in theatre was Life of Pi (2012), not too bad of a movie, but not great either.
1
Fight Club is a thousand times better than all this garbage Hollywood and the comic book industry have churned out as of late.
1
Is that Brad Pitt in your avatar?
1
Because the comic book industry has been subverted and destroyed.
1
@Sasquatch-ff1pj Seth Rogan makes JJ Abrams look good in comparison.
1
The 2016 Ghostbusters movie was an embarrassment and utterly tainted the legacy of the old Ghostbusters which starred Bill Murray.
1
I mostly watch anime and films coming out of Scandinavia. Japan and northern Europe specifically. Western media has gone to the dogs.
1
Obviously you’re speaking of the Millennials…
1
Ubisoft went full woke.
1
Sad but true.
1
Because our society is celebrity obsessed nitwits, that’s why.
1
Social media was a grave mistake.
1
Benny Hill was the best.
1
It’s a good series.
1
Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) did their jobs well. A great combination of cinema spectacle and great acting, without being insulting to the viewer. These days, I consider that annoying nitwit character Jar Jar Binks to be utterly tame and tolerable compared to what I see these days.
1
Tiny Toons, you're talking about the cartoon show from the early 1990s?
1
It's sad that we have to point out that this film is an old school style action movie full of the masculinity we used to get with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
1
@sardonically-inclined7645 I miss when Arnold Schwarzenegger and the like were being hailed as men. Never mind his iconic chiseled body.
1
@ohwellwhateverr Is that why they are more beta makes than young men were in the 80s - 90s?
1
Just don't become a full weeb.
1
You don't even have to stop with watching The Lone Ranger. You can watch just about the entire series on radio as well. It was one of many programs from that era that transitioned to radio.
1
Elden Ring is already GOTY for 2022 in my opinion.
1
Same here as well.
1
@spacejunk2186 The same applies to all entertainment, regardless of the country it comes from.
1
@cheetor1987 What was this live show you were watching?
1
@cheetor1987 This doesn't make sense. You said you watched this show recently, but this sounds like you're saying that you used to support a YouTube channel years ago when you were younger.
1
@cheetor1987 I don't care to look up these shows myself, because there's too much crap on the airwaves nowadays. I hated Barney & Friends when I was a kid in the 90s, but looking back now, it seemed far more tame and less condescending than the utter tripe we have today.
1
Kid shows today aren't teaching our kids good values.
1
Santa Monica Studios is fully woke now.
1
It’s shit. One reason why I only watch anime and manga.
1
Entertainment has been declining since the 90s.
1
At least it’s better than most of this garbage coming out now.
1
You need to paste this on every woke persons profile on social media.
1
@despayre3914 That’s the problem. They’re entitled manchildren who can’t face up to reality.
1
@sorbabaric1 I worked with a few guys at Dollar Tree who made garbage money despite being college graduates with Bachelors in Business. One was going for a Masters in his field but ended up flunking out of graduate school because he felt it wasn't worth the frustration.
1
You’re forgetting that these woke people are in control of the comic book industry, along with all the other mainstream entertainment venues. That’s why we’re seeing Batman and Spider-Man blurt out lines that no sane average individual would ever say in public. It’s a mess.
1
@jhpfdijtuiweruot You probably see no problem with the woke politics, identity roles and gender swapping of this generation. Just go away. You're polluting the airwaves.
1
@jhpfdijtuiweruot Cry some moar. You sound like you're desperately seeking validation.
1
Hollywood wouldn’t care regardless.
1
Those days are long gone. Unfortunately, the Millennials who largely grew up sheltered and pampered by their parents in the 80s and 90s are making the entertainment nowadays. You can clearly tell a lot of it is narcissistic, self absorbed nonsense. I just recently watched the fourth season of The Andy Griffith Show. All the great things it had going for it are pretty much dead and gone in today's world.
