You Boomers were paid better back then. Highschool dropouts back in the 1960s - 1970s could take a job at the factory while getting paid union benefits on top of wages that were far more reasonable. Factory work is the same monotonous, back breaking labor that it was in the time of yesteryear, but now young people can't get union benefits, and their studio apartments are barely paid for.

Thatchers run was back in the 1980’s. So it’s been decades since the UK was a free spirited, upstanding country.

9. George Carlin would kill all the competition right now if he were brought back from the dead.

@dennisweidner288 Because he would. I look at old 1970's comedy like Fawlty Towers and I just feel a tinge of sadness. The UK was on top in the 1960s/1970s, with The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Queen leading the world in Rock music. Meanwhile the UK was giving us comedy greats in Monty Python and Fawlty Towers. America was so impressed with British comedy the shows All in the Family and Sanford & Son were both American adaptations of successful and influential British sitcoms. Now look at the UK and the USA today. They make my heart break.

@dennisweidner288 Fawlty had John Cleese, who would go on to have a successful career in show business. I knew Cleese from his guest appearance on The Muppet Show, which was made and produced in the UK. Americans got the show thru syndication. The Muppet Show had American performers such as George Burns, Bob Hope (who was born in Britain, but moved to the United States very early in his life) and Johnny Cash, among others. The Muppet Movie again had Burns and Hope as well as other celebrities from Hollywood. Mark Hamill guest starred in his Luke Skywalker costume. America was greatly influenced by The British Invasion of the 1960’s, and this trickled down to sitcoms and films. You don’t see this influence anymore, at least not anything decent. The UK has been suppressed, for lack of a better term.
