@kevg1617 Detroit was the shining example in 1950’s America because it produced the nations cars. Manufacturing jobs were plentiful and you got into the union with a high school education. Since around the 1970’s - 1980’s it went from an economic powerhouse to a sad shell of its former self. Old buildings from the early - mid 20th century lie ruined, used by bums and those who lost all hope. The money pit is gone. The corporations that remain there trap themselves in a bubble while the average person struggles to even put food on the table. Detroit has seen so much strife for so long, that 1950’s - 1960’s outlook on the city almost seems like a fantasy. That is a distant memory now. Most of the White people have all left, leaving behind a dominant African American population whose younger residents turn to gangs to survive. Detroit has no real money. It’s a sad, bleak city with nothing to really offer.
