The sad truth is they’re making it harder just to own a car. The days of buying a car like people did in the 1980’s and 1990’s and not getting any interference from corporations are long gone.

@SandySez This is exactly what I mean. Even something that should be straightforward, like gym memberships, requires smartphones and for you to download an app. They took away clipboards, paper and being able to physically sign. So the smartphone is now a scanner, and they make you do a bunch of garbage that simply didn’t exist 20 years ago. It was much easier to sign a paper, give the person up front your physical cash, and just work out for the day.

@wills.5762 I was referring to modern cars. Especially any EV car or brand new model. They’re giving people more red tape. Yes, you can still purchase those 80’s and 90’s cars, but you better be prepared to do maintenance. There’s a lot of older cars out there that require a hefty amount of work, either because the previous owner didn’t care for the vehicle, or the dealer is trying to take shortcuts. You have to drive the cars and actually get a feel for them, making sure they’re in working order. Just looking at them ain’t good enough. Sure, they may look more stylish, as cars of that era typically are, but that doesn’t mean they’re reliable and 100% ready.

@johnnybaggins777 That’s basically a sign of our times. I also hate that everything is electronic. I recently visited some old relatives in their 80s last month. Booked my flight, and once I arrived I learned the rental car company I used was short on available vehicles. Desperate, I opted for a Mercedes. Bad decision. Electronics on it were wonky, things like opening windows were convoluted. They made everything more complex, all for hooking up a car to some online account or tracking data. None of this existed when I went to highschool in the late 1990’s. You simply purchased a car from a used dealer or an automobile manufacturer. Things were still analog and mechanical, including the dash. The Mercedes I was driving was electric and had a completely electronic dash. Everything has been cheapened and all this tech is just making things worse.

@rmene5492 They are also activists. They took over the Linux kernel, as well as gaming, tech, virtually anything in regards to computer software.
