I'm glad it worked out for this 8 year old. But, if everyone did this, it would most 8 year old kids as a complete wreck, being given off to a stranger?? No grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends? Just uproot an 8 year old to a stranger? At least if you give up a kid for adoption, there's a screening process. But, this story is like buying a lotto ticket and staking your son's future life on hitting the winning number. Hate to rain on people's parade, but, I don't think this is a "good" story at all.

@ghde996 Pfftt. You are backward. I am kind to 8 year old kids. In a time of tragedy of losing a parent, I think the best place for them is to be surrounded by friends and family, and be given to a trusted loved one, and not being shipped off to a stranger, based on a random gamble that the person would be a good replacement parent. That's all this was. It was a gamble that appears to have paid off (if this short "news" story is true). But, being handed to a stranger with no filtering process, and being yanked away from the rest of his family and friends, is NOT a good idea generally. And, this "news" (not news) story shouldn't be heralded as if handing an 8 year old to a stranger for the rest of his life is a smart way to take care of children. YOU are not very kind. YOU aren't.
