  1. It would have helped if Smith reported who was doing it after he started recording them. It doesn't help if the only times Smith went to the police was before he knew who they were, then never went to them again once he knew who was doing it.

  3. It also doesn't help to record the incident. Not only does it demonstrate the huge gaps in time between shots, but, it makes it really clear that it was premeditated.

  4. There's a difference between self defense and murder. He crossed that line a million times over. Nobody faults anybody for self defense. But, there was no "defense" in this case.

  5. He didn't "respond in kind." He PLANNED this. They robbed him. He murdered them. He was never in fear for his life.

  7. Good grief. This wasn't self defense. If someone breaks into your house, you have every right to defend yourself. But, Smith went a million miles past that. I mean, I could sit here and spell it out point by point. But, do you know the level of "depravity" that they were talking about? Do you know what happened in the 24 hours after he took their lives, and before he called the police? Do you know he said, "cute" on the recording, and that the next day, they found her with her clothes open? This man not only premeditated what he did, but, he went so bananas that he chose to keep on violating them (her at least) after she was gone. Sorry, but, this isn't "self defense."

  8. "just moving his vehicle was "bait", so all the cops ...." Um, yeah. If he had called the cops ahead of time also, to help set up the "bait," that would have been fine. You're allowed to trap criminals. You just don't get to gun them down.

  9. "officers put an entire clips into 1 person to "neutralize"" Sometimes it takes that much. Sometimes, even that's not enough. But, they don't sit there and stew and taunt, wait a while, then unload some more. When the threat is neutralized, they stop. That's not what happened here.

  10. @ "He had no idea the people would come that day." Is this a joke? He parked his car a quarter mile away. He unscrewed the lightbulbs in his house. He went outside, got two tarps to use as body bags, brought them back inside, and placed them exactly where he planned to shoot them. He then recorded himself rehearsing what he planned to say to authorities. He also said on that recording that he planned to shoot "in the left eye" (and, later, that's exactly where he shot the girl from point-blank range as she was crying on the ground from the torso shots). Yet, you're going to say he didn't know they were coming? You have GOT to be joking.

  11. Planning it out, pulling the lightbulbs, moving the car a quarter mile away, getting two tarps ready for the bodies ahead of time, recording himself rehearsing what he was going to say about the murders (before they happened), etc., didn't help the "self defense" case either.

  12. "Deserve" isn't the issue here. Had they broken into someone's house, and the owner was defending themselves, well, they "deserve" what they got. But, this particular case isn't that simple. He PLANNED this. He wasn't "defending" himself.

  13. Sure. Then CALL THE POLICE. But, Smith only went to the police before he knew who they were. After he knew, he never went to the police again (until after he ended their lives).
