But, in reality, they ARE. Well, not "rigid." But, the fabrics do have a limit to how much they stretch. It's not like a rubber band that just keeps stretching until it breaks. The easiest analogy I can give you is that it's a bit more like an elastic belt (though, even that analogy isn't perfect, but close enough). An elastic belt stretches, but, once it hits a certain limit, it just doesn't stretch any further. Spacesuits are like that. They do "puff up" to a certain limit. But, after that, the fabric just doesn't stretch any further.
