  2.  @sanzuriver2959  china had many options, they could literally sanction taiwan, like cuba, not only prevent taiwan from trading at all with china, but sanction any country trading with taiwan back since the 60s, even before taiwan was able to industrialize, if they did this taiwan would be fucked in some sense, but on the other hand, i don't think they did this due to niceness but naivety. the ccp is making lots of complacent decisions (like the stupid one child policy that only targeted han chinese and not minorities)
