@jonaspete nah, they were mostly pragmatic, mao needed to get japan on their side post war to help rebuild, he was aware the emperor was a puppet. btw for the reccord, did you know chaing kai chek didn't even speak mandarin? he spoke lots of regional dialects that don't exist today, and ironicly communicated mostly in japanese with the allies. he went to school in japan and after the war he actually pardoned most of the officers that were apparently in the nanking massacre and hired them to help train the military in taiwan. so it wasn't just mao even chiang didn't really have that much animosity towards japan.

what? the nazis were on china's side during most of ww2. they actually switched sides last minute after japan signed the pact, one of the reasons why the kmt lost was because most of their millitary and equipment were sourced from germany and was trained in german tactics. originally he was winning very well vs the japanese under german leadership, but after hitler killed rolm and switched sides they never recovered
