@VersusARCH it is indeed a vassal state however, japan was always economically sound, before ww2, they were able to slightly outproduce tsarist russia, an economy far larger than them at the time. the the thing is, i would argue that the united states is actually what holds japan back, they are actively causing ruckus and inciting incidents between japan korea and china in order to prevent a creation of an asian European union. that was japans original goal in ww2 before they lost, the usa keeps japan on a tight leash and every time they outshine the master they get put in their place

@TimeOfTroubles73 the m16 kept argentina poor inorder to sustain britain, and the CIA allowed imperial japan to keep its industry as long as they supported the war against communism, however the japanese were sly, they used the article 9 of the pacifist treaty in order to avoid military action and focus on their economy, eventually the US got fed up, on top of japan competing with the US for products, they destroyed their export market finally with the plaza accord near the end of the 1980s
