normie x independent? From who? You would be governed from Brussels. Your idea of independence is a little confused.
1
PartyPartyPartyNow you don’t even know what the UK is!
1
JP Sartre are you sure? The trade deficit is 4/3 the EU would lose more jobs than the UK. 1/3 of German cars are sold in the UK. You think the EU will survive if they destroy 1/3 of the German car industry?
1
JP Sartre you are right to point out the E.U. wants to teach Britain a lesson. Yo make an example of them to scare off anyone else from thinking of leaving. A good public beating. However the E.U. and National governments within the EU are not aligned. French wine makers, German car makers, etc. NEED us. Trade will continue.
1
BernieBro you don’t have to be in the E.U. to trade with it. The rest of the world isn’t in the E.U.. China is doing ok, Australia, the US, etc. the E.U. is managed decline at best. However the debate is over. Over. We voted out. Any argument to try to keep us in should be called out for what it is. A betrayal of the biggest electoral mandate in British history. Leave means leave.
1
BernieBro fair enough. I respect that position I just disagree. I would point out that “less autonomy” is a very generous term indeed though. There is nothing democratic about it. Greece is governed by Brussels. The birthplace of democracy! Italy has had several elected governments replaced by Brussels. MEPs can’t enact legislation. Only the commission can (unelected) If you can’t vote the people out that make your laws it’s not democracy. Every referendum allowed has always rejected the E.U.. they either are simply ignored or told to vote again. The EU can not be a democracy as there is no European Demos (people)
1
TheRiyad1 that’s not how voting works. It’s not best of three. The referendum is over. The biggest electoral mandate in British history must be respected.
1
CastAirLead keep voting until you get the “Right” answer ;-) Respect the result if you believe in democracy. You can have another vote to rejoin the E.U. if you like at some point if there is a demand for it. May I suggest the same time the political class made us wait....41 years.
1
CastAirLead so you don’t respect the referendum result and you want another one. If you lose that ....another? How many? The fact is we won and those that lost have to respect the result and move on. If you love the E.U. then it’s still there. Under freedom of movement you have the right to move to Paris.
1
CastAirLead anyone calling for another vote doesn’t believe in democracy. You had your chance. You lost. It’s not the best of three. Once we have left you can wait 41 years to vote to join the E.U. again if you like. That’s how long we had to wait. Calling for another vote is disgraceful. Shame on those that want to overturn the biggest electoral mandate in our history.

peter burry the short answer is Margaret Thatcher and her golden legacy. We have paid in more than we got back every single year EXCEPT the year we joined! Also the EU has changed vastly since its inception. The big change that was the last straw was Maastricht and the three changes it represented. Remember Thatcher’s famous three No’s After that the pro E.U. members of her party called a no confidence vote. Thatcher won the vote with more votes than May did this week but she, unlike May, recognized she no long commanded her parties confidence. So she resigned. Maastricht was also a big turning point as well as it was at Maastricht’s inception that the labour party went from being against the E.U. to being for it. The point is the common market is not the E.U. and it’s not 1973 the world is very different. Europe is declining in world GDP share every year.
1
dan taylor there are 39 billion reasons why you are wrong. Also as I have highlighted we have paid in more than we got out every single year except one.

The Brexit vote was 2 1/2 years ago. Our politicians have spent all that time trying to get us to stay in the EU. We can. It have the benefits of leaving unless we actually leave. Those calling for a second vote are a disgrace. They want to live in a dictatorship where votes are ignored. We should just leave with no deal today. Trade will continue. German car workers export 1/3 of their cars to the UK. Does anyone think that the EU can destroy 1/3 of the German car industry? Britain can thrive outside of the EU that is their fear.
