Bank guarantees are taxpayer backed. We should not be backing banks that play fast and loose with money. SVB did stupid things and their customers knew they were doing it but enjoyed the virtue signaling that came with it. Now ordinary taxpayers bailed them out. This is not fair.

@navi2102 make believe money. Even democrats accept that backing SVB has to come from customers pockets. Customers of other banks are taxpayers. It means worse interest rates for the customers of banks that did the right thing and invested wisely. There should be a cost to reckless investment.

@rickriccardi4741 the FDIC fund comes from other banks which gets the money from customers who are all taxpayers. Pretending this doesn’t affect taxpayers is childish. Also the funds size isn’t nearly enough to cover the losses at SVB.

@navi2102 so you think banks that lend and invest recklessly should never be allowed to fail? Without “Moral hazard” banks will never do the right thing.
