If they themselves are actually threatened with having to fight, they quickly oppose the war and castigate the military for causing casualties in foreign lands.

Human beings are not naturally good, they are born flawed, with propensities for both good and evil. The freedom of the will means that education can’t entirely eliminate the possibility that people will choose to do evil.
