The prosecutors will sometimes grant immunity to testify before the grand jury. Everything you say cannot be used against you. Once given immunity you can not plead the 5th and have to answer all questions truthfully or be charged with perjury. The grand jury only decides to indict a person based on testimony and evidence presented and sends the case to a jury for deciding guilty or innocence.
