The Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) warns of impending collision between commercial aircraft by broadcasting transponder signals to each other independent of ATC ground systems and to take evasive maneuvers. The B-52 has no TCAS. This shows poor planning by the FAA approving the fly-over without checking the flight patterns of commercial airline landing at the conflict flight area and the time of the fly-over. It looks like a DOGE FAA layoff and not having enough people to monitor.

  2. A simple NOTAM or Notice to Air Missions to alert and inform pilots of potentially hazardous or temporary changes to the airspace would have prevented the close call. The B-52 flyover for the state fair was planned for. If a NOTAM was issued giving the B-52 flyover time and route, a delay in airport operations and the Delta pilots being aware of the flyover would have prevented this. People are talking about not having local radar, the big issue is the DOGE FAA layoffs maintaining what works.
