  1. For the UK it was tariffs to the left from Trump and tariffs to the right from the EU; the UK was stuck between a ‘rock and a hard place’ and the EU’s tariffs weren’t going to change on a whim like Trump’s tariff.

  2. For Trump it was a PR gimmick showing a small win in the tariff war. Getting cars, steel and aluminum, which aren’t a major exporter to the US. And selling agriculture which the local Brits have started to say they’ll boycott to show solidarity against Trump’s bullying them!
