The DOJ original investigation was on Gaetz’s Bff, an indicted GOP Tax Collector in a small Florida county charged with underage sex trafficking and corruption. News then breaks about Gaetz thinking about leaving Congress to work as a political mouthpiece of some sort at the right-wing NewMax media and suddenly news break that the DOJ is investigating Gaetz for sex trafficking? Like they say, where there’s smoke there is fire. And it appears there is going to be a whole lot of fire.

“When a federal prosecutor deems someone a target, it means the government believes there's substantial evidence that person has committed a crime. ... To a federal prosecutor, a subject is a person whose conduct is within the scope of a grand jury's investigation…” If the federal prosecutor says you are a subject of an investigation, it means they do not have enough evidence yet against you. A witness is someone they do not considered being criminally involved in the investigation.

“In 2017, Gaetz was the lone member of Congress to vote against an anti-human trafficking bill that gave the federal government more money to fight the illegal trade across the country…The Senate unanimously passed the bipartisan bill in 2017, after which it went to the House of Representatives, where it passed — though not unanimously — 418 to 1. Former President Donald Trump signed the bill into law in January 2018.” I guess he must have been sweating bullets when the bill passed.

Gaetz had stated that the DOJ lawyers had told his lawyers that he was a subject in their investigation. By DOJ rules federal prosecutors must state if you are a target, subject, or witness in their investigation.

@saltynugmonster2235 There are two separate issues. One is the alleged sex trafficking and the other is the alleged extortion. The New York Times article told about the alleged sex trafficking. Gaetz is the one who starting talking about the alleged extortion. Your aluminum foil hat must be slipping off your head.

@saltynugmonster2235 The sex trafficking investigation started under Bill Barr.

@saltynugmonster2235 The 4th Amendment of the US Constitution prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any search warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. Federal investigators must have a reasonable ground or probable cause to begin investigating an individual for crimes. Ironically, when Trump was running for President, he said that he would investigate Hillary Clinton for federal crimes he believed she had committed, but the actions of his administrations forced his own GOP appointed DOJ and FBI leaders to investigate his administration for possible crimes. Federal investigator swear an oath to the US Constitution and not to a party or individual.

@saltynugmonster2235 If someone is going to commit a crime, they tend to hid their tracks and not use their names on documents. Travel arrangement would be highly incriminating, they would tend to use third party arrangement such as campaign expense on private charted airplanes or rich donor jets where passenger lists are not kept.

@saltynugmonster2235 The reason why the Trump GOP DOJ started an investigation of Russian interference was because Trump’s political appointees had lied or misled the FBI. The FBI where were vetting them for their security clearances when they lied. Remember when Sessions and Flynn misled or lied about talking to members of the Russian government? If they had been truthful there wouldn’t have been any probable cause to start an investigation. And when giving the chance to correct their previous statements, Sessions came clean, while Flynn continued to lie and was convicted. Members of Trump’s political appointees had to be constantly given temporary security clearances. These security clearances had to be temporarily renewed every time, because the FBI could not vet them because of their statements that were constantly being retracted or updated.

@saltynugmonster2235 It’s amazing how petty the Trump supporters are; they are still harping on perceived grievances. The aluminum foil hat wearing crowd keep harping that the FBI should investigate private citizens because they don‘t like them; “Hunter, Clinton, Obama, Comey, Cuomo, and many others…” without probable cause for a violation of a federal crime, while giving sitting members of Congress a free ride for possible federal crimes. It’s like the people who dial 911 to report a crime because in their McDonald’s order they forget the fries.
