This shows how dependent the world is on computer software; a simple software flight crew scheduling software upgrade caused a massive system shutdown when they couldn’t assign pilots and flight attendants to already schedule flights. Other airlines had backup plans to reduce the flight crew scheduling software outage, but Delta had no contingency plans and just cancelled all their flights. Delta saved on wages and relied heavily on the software program with no backups.

  2.  @CaitS34  It was CrowdStrike, a third-party vendor’s software upgrade. They failed to properly test the new software upgrades on the Microsoft platform.
