  1. The Titan submersible was the largest carbon fiber submersible. Carbon fiber failure mode is cracking like an egg shell and splitting of the fibers; metal will deform, bend and crumple. Metal deformation from compression gives you indication. Carbon fiber cracking like an egg shell is almost instantaneous shattering. There is no organization or regulatory body in the world that would certify a carbon fiber submersible against compression fatigue after repeated dives. All other deep dive submersibles are made from titanium metal.

  2. Mv Polar Prince was keeping station above the Titanic as the submersible Titan dived. The Polar Prince tracked the transponder on the Titan to send digital text messages for steering to the Titanic. After 1hr 45min all communication was lost and the Polar Prince waited for Titan to surface. When Titan didn’t surface the crew thought the CEO was going to dive blind to the Titanic. Based on the dive profile when the Titan wasn’t in the recovery surface area, the crew thought diving blind must have gotten her off course and called the US Coast Guard over 10 hrs after she entered the water. That’s way the US Coast Guard and Canadian Coast Guard was looking on the surface.
