The Russian T-72A tank will be outgunned when the German Leopard 2 is in the hands of the Ukrainians. The T-72A has an outdated gun stabilization unit and can fire on the move, but the Russian tankers would rather fire when stopped; in combat sometimes you only get one shot. There is an old TV commercial of the German Leopard 2 driving over off-roads with a German beer mug at the end of the gun with the stabilizer mode activated; it‘ll give Russian tankers nightmares.

The Russian home made “Cope Cage” (metal umbrella) on the T-72A does work against Javelin Ant-tank Guided Missile (ATGM). The Russian Kornet ATGM is a laser beam riding direct hit missile. It has a longer range than the Western ATGM, but because of the poor thermal unit the range is greatly limited. The Kornet has to carry more fuel and the electronics are slow to respond, so it flies slower and is heavier to transport in the battle field. Western tanks have laser sensors and will fire smoke screens against the laser beam and fire active counter measures. The Western ATGM destroyed more Russian made tanks than the Kornet.
