It’s all about the money. If people are crazy enough to fly into a country that has forest fires, who can stop them? The UK citizens must wait for their tour operators to arrange UK flights out of the country since their UK passports are no longer allowing extended travel in any of the EU countries pass 90 days and they need to show a return flight ticket. If this was pre-Brexit, they could have hopped a short flight to any EU country like Italy with only their UK passport and without showing a return ticket to leave the EU.

Requirements for British Citizens Travelling to the EU...To enter the EU after Brexit, you must have the following documents when you travel: Valid passport, Health insurance (such as private travel insurance or an EHIC/GHIC) ,enough money to cover your stay in the EU,return or onward travel ticket.

@manuela9671 Force majeure is a financial contract clause that removes liability for catastrophic events, such as natural disasters and warfare; in other words “An act of God“. If you have holiday insurance you might be able to get a partial refund if you cancelled before you left for your holiday, but once you’re in the disaster you’re on your own.
