Private military companies are illegal in Russia, but with Wagner mercenaries heavy participation in the war in Ukraine they have been legitimized by Putin as being referred by the Ministry of Defense and Russian government with the umbrella term of "volunteer detachments". Like everything in Russia, laws are what Putin says are laws.

@victorzvyagintsev1325 With the Wagner mercenaries either being paid more money then the regular Russian soldier or being convicted criminals offered promises of freedom for fighting, there is animosity by the mobilized conscripted Russian soldiers being forced to leave their families and jobs to fight for less pay and benefits.

@victorzvyagintsev1325 PMC is paid by a private company. Russians can sign a direct service contract with the Russian government, in the West it's called enlisting in the military before you are drafted involuntarily. By enlisting you have some choice on what units you join.

@victorzvyagintsev1325 The Russian Ministry of Defense and Russian government use the umbrella term of "volunteer detachments", and not contract soldiers (i.e, enlisted) having a different wage and benefits scale then the regular soldiers.
