  1. All modern surface-to-air missile systems (SAMS) have an electronic Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) interrogation system to identify friends from enemies. Ukraine doesn’t fly any Su-35 jets and the Russians very rarely fly their jets into Ukraine and normally releases their missiles while still in Russian airspace. With the Ukrainians quickly gaining ground in the Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian’s poor training allowed for not coordinating an IFF code between the SAMS and the Su-35.
