  1. The main difference between the West and the Russian tank design is the West’s first priority is crew survivability; the Russian’s first priority is building it cheaply as possible. The West’s tank design has separate ammo compartment to keep the explosion outside of the crew compartment. In the Russian design the crew has the ammo right next to them, hence the “Jack-In-The-Box” blowing off the gun turret.
