Tanks have the most frontal armor protection and meant to be leading the attack. Tanks are like sharks in the ocean, sharks needs to constantly move to pass water over their gills to stay alive. Once a tank stop moving near the front lines it's just an iron coffin with a big gun waiting to be hit.

@el_romano7738 Western military doctrine is dispersive your forces and come together quickly to strike in a combines arms strike. The Ukrainians had their limited tanks dispersed and quickly brought them to the front to lead the attack. The Ukrainian tanks with mechanized troops liberated the northeast sector of the front for a breakthrough allowing the mechanized troops to exploit the hole. The Russians just leave a few tanks in the front lines and relied on their artillery for a breakthrough. What took the Russians months to advance a few meters, the Ukrainians were able to gain kilometers in a matter of days.
