Crossing from Dover now means crossing the EU’s external frontier and UK passport holders are now subject to all the same checks that the EU applies to other third country travellers. That means: restrictions on length of stay in the EU, potential questions about resources and reasons to visit, and passport stamps. It is no surprise that pre-Brexit traffic volumes combined with post-Brexit checks leave the border much more vulnerable to delays. The RMT Union have announced three days of strike action to affect several train operating companies on Thursday 20 July, Saturday 22 July and Saturday 29 July. The Met Office said, "According to provisional Met Office figures, the average mean temperature of 15.8C for June 2023 in the UK is the highest in a series since 1884, with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland also reporting their respective warmest June on record." No air conditioning, rail strike, long lines in Dover; just have to stay home and sweat!
