He made a poor assumption that the Ukrainians wouldn’t put up much of a fight or that the West would eventual stop aiding Ukraine and do nothing. Norway and Sweden traditionally neutral countries have join NATO. The EU and other Western countries have placed economic sanctions against Russia. They are making Putin pay a high price for his aggression.

  2.  @MrReymoclif714  Putin’s version of NATO, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan – have either taken a neutral stance on the Russian invasion or have started distancing themselves from the Putin. None of them has recognized Putin’s annexation of the Donbass and south Ukrainian regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, which is a clear signal that Putin cannot count on political or military support from CSTO to come to his aid like NATO would do for its members. Belarus is the only CSTO member who supports Putin because he supported Aleksandr Lukashenko.
