  1. The Russian A-50 early warning aircraft and the IL-22 communication plane were flying in safe airspace over the Sea of Azov out of range of anti-aircraft system. The American Patriot missile systems contains three large equipment trailers, the detection radar, the command center and the missile launcher. Each of these is bulky and hard to move. The Ukrainians moved these bulky systems up to the front lines without being detected and then disassemble them and moved them out of harms way. The most modern Russian S-400 anti-aircraft system is incapable of doing this and the Patriot system is from the 1986 era.
